Years of viticultural experimentation are now being rewarded with fruit concentration and elegance on businessman Christo Wiese’s vast, multifaceted estate, set in a mountain amphitheatre on the outskirts of Somerset West. 'On a cool property, you keep on learning,' quips CEO Koos Jordaan, gratified that their plan is also coming together in the cellar, one of SA's largest and most technologically advanced. There is a general upgrade planned of all the tourist facilities to complement the existing mini-village of craft-orientated ventures, purveying everything fine from coffee, pastries, chocolate and cheese to art and jewellery. There is also a restaurant and function venue, not to mention a host of outdoor events and activities on offer, the major portion of the property being dedicated to conservation.
